I was doing my typical morning science news reading and came across this article about biodegradable DNA nanorobots that kill cancer cells. They had me at nanorobots! Scientists have generated biodegradable DNA nanorobots that travel in the bloodstream, find tumors, and distribute a specific protein (called thrombin) that causes extensive blood clots in the blood vessels of tumors but does not cause clotting elsewhere in the animals. The clots in the tumor vessels induce specific cell death of the cancer cells.
This preliminary study was done in mice. Much more work is needed to be done before translation to clinical trials and it's not clear that thrombin will be the key...but the platform of the biodegradable DNA nanorobots seems to be functional and appears to be the most important finding in this study. Yay nanorobots! Now, if only they looked like they do in this picture. :) Link to the full article: https://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/51717/title/DNA-Robots-Target-Cancer/
Happy Birthday to my brother from a Spanish mother! 13 horribly unlucky years for you I guess I've known you! We've both been through a lot and it's so great to see you surviving with such style and class as usual! Happy Birthday Bro! Snooty Fox? Eat a dick... #happybirthday@spanishrob
No matter what your vision of the future, what’s important is to acknowledge how good we’ve had it, how good we’ve got it and do everything in our power to protect it so that surfing remains magical for the generations who follow. @campbellmckegg. Link in bio: @ramboestrada SW 395
Was standing next to the phone when the @easyJet agent called to check if my girlfriend's passport was ok to board. He didn't get the answer he wanted because the guy on the phone said yes. So he disagreed with his own reference point and ruined our holiday to Paris. EasyJet are scum. They owe us £700 and have single handedly ruined our vacation. #shitairline#easyjet#airlines#lastminutedotcom#paris#gatwick
