A helping hand makes all the difference in this #WHPcommunity submission from 19-year-old Soumesh Pandey (@camerawalebhaiya). “The essence of power within the frame encouraged me to take the shot,” he explains. “It depicts how in every bad situation you can fight back if you get help from your surroundings.”

Photo by @BrianSkerry | A tiger shark pup, about four days old, swims just below the surface in Hawaii. These animals are considered the most dangerous shark species in tropical waters. Researchers are now learning about behaviors that until recently remained a mystery. Despite being large predators, life in the ocean is difficult, and they face many challenges to survive. As with all species, the tiger shark faces declining populations worldwide as the demand for shark fins continues.

The World at Night project
A few nights ago on the rim of the Black Canyon National Park in Colorado. The extremely deep and narrow canyon causes the dark black walls. This single exposure photograph is mainly lit by the moon and partly by the fading twilight. Night photography very often depends on the moment and how to use the right ambient light.
See more of my visit to the canyon and explore the world’s wonders under stars @babaktafreshi.

@TimLaman | Closeup detail of sea star in Coiba National Park. Central America’s largest uninhabited island, Coiba sits just off the Pacific coast of Panama and has many endemic species of animals and plants. It was a penal colony for almost 100 years until 10 years ago, so it is covered with lush rainforest. I am back again this week focusing on the underwater realm. Stay tuned for new pics! #Coiba, #Panama, @thephotosociety, @natgeocreative.

Top Shot: Stripes on Stripes | Photograph by Yaron Schmid (@yswildlifephotography)
.
“During an early morning game drive in Etosha, Namibia, we stopped by Okaukuejo water hole,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Yaron Schmid. “This place is known for the large amount of animals that tend to visit it during the day. Unfortunately, only a lone zebra and a few Oryx were in the area. Luckily, this cautious zebra finally reached the water and started drinking as the first rays of the rising sun penetrated the morning clouds.” This image was selected for the Daily Dozen on November 19, 2018.

Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads. Our community votes for their favorite photo from the selection, and the Top Shot is showcased on the @natgeoyourshot Instagram account.
