Probably my most intense moment underwater so far 🐋
Jonas (@beyer_photo ) spotted a ton of herring in the water so we went in, in hope to see Orcas around them. We wait for a good amount of time just snorkeling and watching the herring. But suddenly out of nowhere these humpbacks show up with a lunge feeding "attack"! We saw them in the last second with their huge mouth wide open! HOOOLY!!! 😵 Jonas was even closer, alomst in between them... What a moment!

Northern Humpbacks are very dark with minimal white on their pecs. They are hard to see and even harder to capture in these green milky waters. They blend in perfectly with their surroundings. Usually they are beneath the herring ball so you can't see them. The humpbacks can take 100kg of herring in one gulp 😳

Finest firm granite in Southern Greenland. Climbers love it even though it tears their flesh :) I also love the way it turns to gold in the last light of day.

Granite forms the world’s tallest cliffs like the northwest face of Great Trango Tower in Pakistan or the Polar Sun Spire on Baffin Island, Canada. Other large granitic walls and peaks include those of the Mont Blanc massif, Alaska’s Ruth Gorge, the Bugaboos of Canada, and the Fitzroy and Paine groups in Patagonia. #granite

Humpback whales 🐋 have very distinctive markings on their tail flukes, they also have a particular diving technique where their tail emerges from the water before a dive, being flipped to vertical before slowly sliding beneath the surface. It looks so elegant and in this way the tail pattern is clearly exposed. Scientists use this to identify individual whales 👌🏼
They are real globetrotters too! You’ve probably seen humpback whale photos showing them in tropical waters or in Alaska. You can find them migrating just about anywhere in the Arctic, Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. Being close to these giants is beyond words...

Orcas are often called killer whales. Though they don’t attack humans in the wild, they have the ability to take down large marine animals, such as sea lions and whales.
Orcas are found in oceans worldwide. They are most abundant in the Arctic and Antarctic and in areas of cold-water upwelling.
I find it so interesting that the vocalizations within a whale community are different from those in other communities, serving to keep the pods together. The calls also bring the pods together over large areas of water when it is not possible for the whales to see each other.

Hiking around southern Greenland 🇬🇱 The freedom which comes with a boat as your base is just incredible. Endless possibilities for dropping the anchor, going on land and keep exploring further... Here we are on our way to another nameless mountain to get a new view on Ulamertorsuaq (🏔) in the Tasermiut Fjord.

[kujaɬeq̚] - The South of the largest Island of the World. That first boatride towards the mountains really blew my mind. It was like seeing Lofoten 2.0 -
Ready for some Greenland facts?
Geographically speaking, Greenland is part of the North American continent but geopolitically a part of Europe. Greenland is a mountainous country and the largest island of the world with a total area of 2,166,086 km2. Of this area, 81 per cent is covered with ice, while the rest is ice-free. The further to the north, the colder, drier, and less windy it is. July is the warmest month while February and March are the coldest. #Greenland

*Anzeige | Above the clouds. Definitely a happy place! That day I was testing the new Freelite Jacket of @kjus. Seems like it a great piece of gear to start into the winter season. Now all we need is snow! Can’t wait to hit the backcountry! #kjus

A large dorsal fin and a sleek, streamlined body - the perfect design for a life in the ocean 🌊 In mature males like this on, the dorsal fin is tall and triangular and can reach a height of 1.8 m (6 ft). Orcas are the largest extant members of the dolphin family. Males typically range from 6 to 8 metres (20 to 26 ft) long and weigh in excess of 6 tonnes. They have no predators.
In captivity adult male orcas have collapsed dorsal fins, likely because they have no space in which to swim freely and are fed an unnatural diet of thawed dead fish. They belong to the wild!

The orcas following the schools of herring that overwinter here in the Fjords of northern Norway. It is a huge privilege (for us humans) to see these magnificent animals in their natural environment. We always have to remember that we are merely guests. It felt good to be here for the first time with @beyer_photo & @articaadventures. Amazing experiences in a safe and ethical way 👌🏼
After three days of rather bad weather on the boat we got lucky on our last day. It was a welcoming change to see the sun up there!

Orcas, the apex predators of our oceans 🙌🏼 What a privilege it was to spend some time with these highly social, intelligent and curious animals in the water. They are so fascinating. I left the chilly arctic waters days ago but my mind is constantly up there. I found a new passion here and this doesn't happen often. It feels like this was just the beginning of a long journey. Rarely I have been in such awe! Thanks to @articaadventures & @beyer_photo for the introduction. See you soon!
