It’s #WorldKindnessDay! What better way to celebrate than by extending a hand 🤲 or an olive branch 🕊 to someone - human or animal - who you usually leave outside of your circle of compassion. 💞 I know it’s late in the day but even sending kind thoughts to someone you don’t like, perhaps someone on the opposite end of the political spectrum as you or someone who did something to upset you that you’ve been holding on to. Remember that you never know what someone else may be going through and that forgiveness and kindness can heal you as much as it can them. Few people are aware of the degree of suffering involved in egg production. In fact, the egg industry is one of the most abusive of all the industries that exploit animals for food.
.
Most hens that are raised for egg production today live in small cages where they can’t even stretch their wings. They are constantly scraping against the bars of their cages, their feathers wear off, they have bruises and abrasions on their bodies, and they live this way for about a year.
.
Thankfully there has been a lot of awareness and concern about this, so there’s a move now towards cage-free #eggs, which is a positive step. However, #cagefree is definitely not #crueltyfree. We still have hens that are very much overcrowded, packed so tightly that they’re de-beaked, meaning part of their beak is cut off so they don’t peck each other. And then they’re sent to slaughter, usually at a fairly young age. So that’s what’s wrong with egg production, whether it be in a battery cage operation or in a cage-free operation.

The bottom line is that these animals are seen as commodities—as food production units—not as living, feeling creatures. Whenever that’s the case, their suffering is likely, their exploitation is inherent, and when they’re no longer profitable, they’re killed. That’s what happens on all egg farms. 😢 #FoodForThought

The #dairy industry is one of the most abusive food animal industries on the planet. 🐄💔 Female cows, to produce milk, have to first become pregnant and have a baby calf. They don’t lactate just for the heck of it (they aren’t magical milk machines as we’ve been led to believe)—a mama cow produces #milk to feed her baby (like we do). Sadly, on dairy farms, females are forcibly impregnated by workers and her newborn calf is taken away from her at birth so that the milk meant for the baby can be sold to humans.

The mother cows are then hooked up to milk machines two or three times a day. These machines pump out the milk meant for the calves. On today’s farms, cows are pushed to produce about 10 times more milk than they would produce in nature. They’re pushed beyond their biological limits. And then, when their milk production declines after a few years, they’re sent to slaughter—usually for beef.

These are cows who suffer the physical stress of intensive production, the emotional stress of losing a calf every year, and then they’re killed at a very young age. That is what’s wrong with milk and dairy.

I fell in LOVE with #gnocchi the first time I went to Italy. I thought 💭 this has to be the pinnacle of food. 😍 So you can imagine my excitement when my @purplecarrotxo box arrived with a gnocchi dish inside! 📦 YES!

I’m kicking off my Saturday with this strawberry banana #smoothie 🍓🍌 while getting laundry and chores done and catching up on podcasts. 🎧 This smoothie is made with 1 super-ripe banana, a handful of frozen strawberries, a sprinkle of oats, and vanilla soymilk, blended to perfection. Summer may be over, but that won’t stop me from playing outside! 🍁🍃 Beautiful fall leaves are blanketing the ground and I’m going to be spending as much time as I can outdoors this season. 🌲🌲🌲 I tend to hermit away inside behind my computer 💻 but I cherish the moments when I can break away and just CHILL. Currently chillin’ out with these deeeelish coconut ice cream pops from @thejollyllamaco (like, seriously guys, go get some ASAP and pretend it’s summer ☀️ with me).
