Welcome to #Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where I’m filming right now for my upcoming @natgeochannel series. So far I've met Tyler Brewer, a senior on the football team (big game tonight!🏉) Mr. V, the acting Superintendent who’s trying to get kids to be job ready out of HS, and went up the Inclined Plane to get a birds eye view of the city and sit with my two Mikes. I also stopped by the West End Ambulance Service to ride along with Jim, a paramedic and learn about the growing opioid crisis here. Finally, I talked Bill, the CEO of JWF Industries about the new face of American manufacturing. Swipe through to see the photos/videos and check out @katiecouric’s story for more!
We want to know about your heroes. @ladyantebellum might even feature them in the new music video for our song Army!
Share your #MyArmyContest photo/video and tag us to enter. What's more, for every use of #LongRoadHome, Nat Geo will donate $1 to Musicians On Call to support veterans – up to $75,000!

Recognizing every one as an individual and as a member of a family is one of the profound contributions Jane Goodall has made to our understanding of chimpanzees. Instead of assigning them numbers as scientists were supposed to do, she gave them names. Her pioneering work, and that of her partner, the gifted Dutch cameraman Hugo van Lawick, who was able to visualize what Jane felt, changed the way we look at chimps--and it influenced how I look at all animals. I post this image of Nickel, a female chimp in Senegal, and her newborn infant Teva, made on assignment for @natgeo, in honor of Jane Goodall and to celebrate the new NatGeo film “JANE”.

Dr. Jane Goodall's field research in Gombe revolutionized the field of primatology. In one of the longest-running field studies of any species, she documented her observations that chimpanzees have distinct personalities, minds and emotions and form lasting family relationships. These photos are from her early days in Gombe. #TBT
On October 9th, Join us in LA at the Hollywood Bowl for an exclusive screening of #JANE, a film about Dr. Jane Goodall. For more information visit JaneTheMovie.com
