The vernal or spring equinox of 2018 happens Tuesday, March 20. Earth’s rotation does not cause equinoxes. They occur when Earth’s tilted axis is perpendicular to the sun’s rays. During an equinox at Earth’s equator, the sun appears almost directly overhead. 🎨: @bi_graphics

Stephen Hawking was a theoretical physicist who pioneered new understandings of black holes, the universe, and how much one person can achieve.

Hawking died early in the morning on March 14, 2018 — Pi Day and Albert Einstein's birthday.

In passing, he left behind an incredible legacy, especially as a person who struggled with ALS, a neurodegenerative disease that confined him to a wheelchair for the vast majority of his life.

On Wednesday morning, the world lost one of its most brilliant minds. Renowned theoretical physicist, Stephen Hawking, died at age 76.

In 1963, at the age of 21, Hawking was diagnosed with ALS and doctors gave him less than five years to live. Defying all odds, Hawking’s opus is widely considered to be “A Brief History of Time,” which has sold more than 10 million copies and translated into 35 languages. His legacy will be felt throughout the scientific and academic communities. 🖌️: @bi_graphics

President Donald Trump will visit the eight, 30-foot-tall prototypes for a wall along the US-Mexico border on Tuesday.

A physical border separating the two North American countries is nothing new. The formal divide between US-Mexico was drawn in the early 19th century. Agents have patrolled and enforced the border since 1924.

Portland, Oregon isn't for everyone — its slogan is "Keep Portland Weird," after all. But thanks to its burgeoning tech sector, Nike's headquarters just outside of the city, and its job growth rate of 2.9% annually, Portland is one of the best places in the US to live if you’re looking to make a lot of money.

It’s a city of off-beat boutiques and bars not to mention affordable housing, low-cost of living, good schools, access to quality healthcare, and well-paying jobs. It’s easy to understand why this city of 2.3 million is growing. 📷: Shutterstock

No, don’t adjust your screen. A McDonald’s in Lynwood, California flipped its iconic Golden Arches upside down for International Women’s Day. The arches typically stand as an M, have been flipped to become a W, for women.

“In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women's Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants," McDonald's global chief diversity officer, Wendy Lewis, said in a statement.

London is the undisputed tourist hot spot in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 with 19 million visitors in 2017. But there’s so much more to the UK than Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly Circus.

Based data collected from Instagram hashtags and geotags, travelers are ditching the city for the countryside. One of the destinations is the bucolic countryside of Snowdonia, Gwynedd, Wales. While it may best known for hiking, there's also a vintage steam railway that will show you the breathtaking sites of Snowdonia National Park.

Frances McDormand's Oscar win on Sunday wasn't a surprise, but something she said in her acceptance speech was.

At the end of her speech, the actress said, "I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentleman: inclusion rider." McDormand was asking those with power in Hollywood to push for requirements in movie and TV contracts for race and gender diversity, with a specific clause or clauses that guarantee it. 🖌️: @bi_graphics
