Gloria, 13, belongs to the Mixe Community of Maluco, a small village in the north of the “Itsmo de Tehuantepec”, Oaxaca Mexico. She lives with her mother and 8 of her 10 siblings who are between 4 and 20 years old. Gloria became mother at the age of 12, a consequence of the constant sexual abuse of her father who has also attacked two of her sisters, aged 8 and 16. "Girls getting pregnant between the ages of 10 to 14 are an extremely vulnerable population, and they can be easy prey for men twice their age. There are many cases of violence, incest and sexual abuse perpetrated against this group." ... from my @TED talk that took place in Arusha, Tanzania. I am part of the 2017 @tedfellow class.

View of San Francisco Bay salt.
Since 1854, salt was one of San Francisco’s largest industries, with over 80% of its wetlands developed for salt mining. The salt ponds covered over 16,500 acres, most of which was owned by Cargill, Inc., an international food production and marketing company. In 2003, Cargill, Inc. sold 15.100 acres of the ponds to State and Federal agencies as well as private foundations who are in the process of restoring them to their pristine tidal wetland beginnings.

International Day of the Girl💥✨⭐️ Empower Girls !!!
Educating girls is key to breaking cycles of teen pregnancy.
In my own experience working in this issue about teenage pregnancy in Latin America one of the keys is the education. The visibility of this issue and the implementation of medium and long term measures are essential to generate a change. More work is needed on the empowerment of girls. The achievement of true equality in decision-making will develop in equity in life projects.
Gissel Chauca with her son Joshua Valle at "Patrimonio de l Humanidad" school. Her boyfriend is named Luis and they have lived together for a year, since Gissel found out she was pregnant. At the beginning, she was very scared of her father and only told her mother the news, who told her she was disappointed because she had many plans for her future. Her family tried to convince her to have an abortion but she refused. She felt a little disappointed to not receive the support of her family. Gissel had a problem with her stepfather and left to live with Luis. Now the father of Gissel, who works in a security company, adores Joshua and wants to bring him to his work every day.

She has been a weaver since she was 10 years old. She is actually blind and is not able to see the threads she weaves from memory. The tradition of weaving comes from the pre-Hispanic period, where one was able to pass on their knowledge and worldview through symbols and designs. "Plan de los muertos" village is located in Guerrero state, Mexico.

Video by @christian_foto / @prime_collective Parade in Xochistlahuaca during the festivities of the town. Xochistlahuaca is a town in Xochistlahuaca Municipality located in the southeast corner of the Mexican state of Guerrero. It is part of this state's Costa Chica region and while near the Pacific Ocean, most of the territory is mountainous. The population is dominated by the indigenous Amuzgo ethnicity, whose women are noted for their traditional hand woven garments, especially the huipil, which is made both for home use and for sale outside the area.
The name Xochistlahuaca comes from the nahuatl xochitl (flower) and ixtlahuatlan (plain); "plain of the flowers". The Amuzgo people are an indigenous group which primarily lives in a region along the Guerrero/Oaxaca state border in southwest Mexico. Most of these people live in or near four municipalities: Xochistlahuaca, Tlacoachistlahuaca and Ometepec in Guerrero

"If a girl in Latin America get pregnant before she is 15, the probability to have another child before 18 are very high"
In my own experience working on projects with teenage mothers and adolescent pregnancy in Latin America, one of the key for breaking circles of teenage pregnancy is education. The visibility of this issue and the implementation of medium and long term measures are essential to generating a change. More work is needed in the empowerment of girls. The achievement of true equality in decision-making will develop with equity in life projects. Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America, the second after Honduras and the one with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy. I decided to work with a background that would not show the social context. We could only say that I give some clues when I intentionally fit the background and the type of fabric used. A stamp referring to the Central American region of our continent.

LINK in profile ✨📸👆🏾 I am very excited to share my talk that took place in Arusha, Tanzania with TEDGlobal as a member of the TED Fellows class of 2017. "In developing countries, 7.3 million girls under the age of 18, give birth each year....
The patterns of poverty and limited access to education and health care are a common thread among teen pregnancies...Educating girls is key to breaking cycles of teen pregnancy. "

Video made in "Complexo do Alemão", Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Brazil could have increased its productivity, up to US $ 3,500 millions if adolescent girls in that country postponed pregnancy until their twenties.(UNFPA )
