Dougal Haston on the summit of Everest. 24 September 1975. Photo by the venerable Doug Scott.
After climbing the Southwest Face Dougal and Doug made it to the summit as the sun set. They later endured an unplanned bivouac at the South Summit. Makalu on the horizon is cloaked in monsoon snow.
This is Art, the Obi Wan of the Bozeman, MT cycling community. Art is the force behind the @bozemanbikekitchen, a non profit dedicated to making the use of bicycles as transportation in our valley. Bring your ride in and rent a stand with tools for $8 an hour, purchase a variety of parts or refurbished bikes and get advice from the patient team of bike mechanics. It's one of the coolest community projects around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Art helped my get a "new" seat for my '90 Specialized Hard Rock and dialed the shifters so that they work much smoother. Think I'm sticking with the original paint as it is bound to be back in style one of these days. Open Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8 pm and Saturday 10 am - Noon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #bozemanbikekitchen#givingback#spokesforfolks

Gordon shared this sleeper image as we are preparing for a return to Queen Maud Land 21 years later. Our team included Rick Ridgeway, @graberproductions , @krakauernotwriting and the late #alexlowe. Free climbing the Snow Petrel Wall will be one of the goals of this year's expedition. Climbers are stronger and gear is lighter, yet the goal of a climb - a happy embrace on the summit - will always remain the most powerful part of any journey. Here is to the future.
Not too many years ago livestock was used for transport and agriculture. With the mechanization and urbanization of civilization we don't have as much of a direct connection, pets aside, to animals. Western Sports involve animals, the type we eat and ride. Rodeo, with its many disciplines, is part of cowboy culture. Life out on the range can be hard. This lesson of being part of the food chain is part of the ethos that frame rodeo sports. The one discipline that embodies the physicality of rodeo is bull riding.
The Pro Bull Riders @pbr aim to ride a bucking and spinning bull for 8 seconds. The bull wants nothing more than to rid him self of the rider and the rider wants nothing more than to control the angry bull. Weighing in at around 1800 pounds the bulls are specifically bred for tossing young men off of their backs. With names like "Fender Bender", "Swervin Mervin" and "Smooth Operator" these animals mean business. When @meatchurch asked if I would rather go back to Everest or ride a bull I figured 8 seconds of misery and a hard fall is better than 8 weeks of misery in the ice fall.
In this clip @derek_kolbaba goes for a wild ride. Thanks @yeti for the invite and @craighummer good to catch up.
The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge and time to prepare. The summit, by virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. Yet to share these moments with friends is to be human. @thenorthface
Yosemite has a magnetic draw.
The towering trees, roaring waterfalls and fierce cliffs create a landscape to refill one's soul.
We thrive on being outdoors. Sleeping under the stars awakens us to life. 🏞🏞🏞
Field trip to @yosmeitenp with my colleagues from @thenorthface. Fine camping ⛺️ @highcamp.us @hilareeoneill
Double tap if you enjoyed the flora and fauna on public lands with your friends and family over the last week. Whenever things get a bit hectic a little nature goes along way.
Here in Jackson Hole, WY to share the value of public lands with Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance and a raft of like minded groups. Presenting with @jenniloweanker @max.lowe about family adventure.
Earlier in the day @kitdski @robdski @jimmy_chin we had a small trot up the mountain before the haze seared our lungs. #keeppubliclandsinpublichands
