REBIRTH OF A LEGEND

The ethics of a man could be an arbitrary choice. Mine is a demonstration of black heritage
uniting with the forces of the world
as relates to fashion or photography.
I am an individual that loves to actualize the African culture with a retouch of creativity.

I am Déji Kalakuta
The son of the soil.

Shoutout to @melony_photography for the photo. More to come. #portraitphotography #personality #lagos #nigeria #movado #melonyphotography #african

Every minute you are not dead should be a minute spent enjoying the fuck out of life. My first fashion showcase took place last night thanks to the @uforchange program and the never ending support from @mister_paunil.
I couldn't believe these many people and more would support me. I appreciate it. I was also lucky to get the opportunity to meet and chat with @sylviamantella Sylvia Mantella people, she said she loves my designs and I lost it, a brotha went crazy. Thank you to Chalo, Akeem, @keiko.lei (whom I met for the very first time yesterday and she decided to walk the runway for me), and all other models @ronnyackkah, @elay_junior, @mcjayjoey and to everyone else who supported, I appreciate it, more to come. Thank you to @plantyourdreams who is also a fantastic designer, for allowing me rock one of her piece on the runway. Check her out. @aneelzz and others not pictured, Thank you for everything.
More photos coming on the gram as well as the website www.dejikalakuta.net
Love.

Over the past few months, I took some fashion design classes under the wings of Toronto fashion designer @mister_paunil (cool guy) through the @uforchange program, and can gladly say it has been an exciting journey. So next week May 27, I and some other creative heads will be presenting our finished product in the UforChange annual Vivacity event @ 7pm.
It will be a night of fashion, photography, music and film.
Come through 😎. .

My piece on the recent campaign by @lushcosmetics focusing on immigration & refugee by @byjanuys (Thank you). .
.
"I am a visual artist and fashion enthusiast who tells his stories through the medium of photography, I am originally from Nigeria and currently based in Toronto.

I was lucky enough to migrate to Canada 8 years ago and I must say it has been some of the best years of my life. As for the term immigration, it is not a new thing. Historically, people have had migratory lifestyles moving from one country to another. Most of which were caused by historical events or search for a better lifestyle and opportunities.
To me, immigration, especially moving to Canada means better opportunity, better health care, education and better life in general. Being an immigrant is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it opens doors for you to learn about other cultures, lifestyles and meet new people, as well as teach others about your rich culture. Show the world where you come from." - Deji Kalakuta .

Home wasn't a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go. For me, over the past few years, some of those moments were also "Made in Toronto". I am a proud Nigerian 🇳🇬who has been fortunate enough to learn and embrace the multicultural fabric of Canada 🇨🇦, also extremely proud to call Toronto home. I have made friends, families and connections with some incredible and interesting people over 8 years that I have been living here and I want to say thanks for the experience, love and support shown to me. Check out my blog interview with @madeintoapparel Link in bio, you can also get the crewneck there. More photos coming on the site.

Oladimeji {Two riches combined}
Oladimeji is a Yoruba name usually given to a male child. It is one of my many names that I find to be unique and meaningful. Growing up in Nigeria, I learnt that in many parts of the country, names often express the parents' expectations for the child or the circumstances surrounding its birth.
