This spectacular bird is an Andean Cock-of-the-rock, photographed at @dallas_world_aquarium. The national bird of Peru, this species is easily identified by its fan-shaped crest and brilliant orange plumage. They get their name from their preference for rocks and ledges as the base for their mud cup nests, which the females are responsible for building. Males gather in groups in a location called a lek to perform elaborate courtship displays. They even try to attract females with a call that sounds like a pig squealing! They bob up and down, bowing and hopping around to display their bright plumage. Males will mate with more than one female and, once she lays her eggs, she cares for the chicks by herself. #PhotoArk #cockoftherock

#followmeto the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt with @natalyosmann. Still no one has been able to properly explain what the true purpose of this ancient structure was, or how was it built. Did you know that this pyramid has eight sides? The centres of the four sides are slightly indented. This phenomenon is only detectable at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes. It is also believed that the three Pyramids of the Giza Plateau mimic the constellation of Orion, or at least used to. ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
What other mysteries about the pyramids do you know?

Hump Day | Photograph by Matt Pycroft (@mattpycroft)
.
#YourShotPhotographer Matt Pycroft was making a documentary about Bedouin people in Wadi Rum, Jordan, when a man drove by with a camel in the back of his truck. Matt recounts: "'What's wrong with her?' we asked, pointing at the camel. 'Nothing,' he replied, laughing. 'I'm taking her to town. She has a date.' He winked and smiled, rolled up his window, and drove on."

“There’s nothing simple about simple,” says Eric Landon (@tortus), the American owner and master potter of Tortus Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. “Over the years, my work has become simpler and simpler. But the simple-looking things are often the most difficult ones to make, because you can’t hide technical inadequacy behind a really simple form. I’ve realized that making a great piece of pottery is like crafting a poem — you have to use very few words and use them artfully.”
