The early morning creates an interesting illusion in the shallow waters of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans as zebras follow ancient migratory paths. This is a migration that was thought to be lost following the erection of vast fences to keep cattle and wildlife separate. However, a key fence has been dropped and despite numerous generations of zebras being unable to walk this route, they have once again followed their instincts and have returned. Working Up the Courage | Photograph by Lauren Sanderson (@lauren___sanderson)

“Learning to swim is a delicate balance of holding on and letting go,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Lauren Sanderson. “Of wanting to, but not being quite sure, of working up the courage to believe that you can do it, while making sure that Mom is still watching.”

“The light, the fierce connection with us in her eyes, the layers of the pool and your framing all make for one intense moment we’re sharing with this new young swimmer. I love that your caption brings a little poetry to the courage it takes to learn how to swim, and how learning to swim isn’t just as simple as the physical motions. Beautifully done, Lauren!” — @natgeoyourshot Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas (@kemcnicholas)

#followmeto the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt with @natalyosmann. Still no one has been able to properly explain what the true purpose of this ancient structure was, or how was it built. Did you know that this pyramid has eight sides? The centres of the four sides are slightly indented. This phenomenon is only detectable at dawn and sunset on the spring and autumn equinoxes. It is also believed that the three Pyramids of the Giza Plateau mimic the constellation of Orion, or at least used to. ⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
What other mysteries about the pyramids do you know?

“There’s nothing simple about simple,” says Eric Landon (@tortus), the American owner and master potter of Tortus Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark. “Over the years, my work has become simpler and simpler. But the simple-looking things are often the most difficult ones to make, because you can’t hide technical inadequacy behind a really simple form. I’ve realized that making a great piece of pottery is like crafting a poem — you have to use very few words and use them artfully.”
