Nationals defeat the Mets in a comeback victory in New York! Very exciting game as the Nats came back from a 5 run deficit to win on the road. Jeremy Hellickson was called up to make the start and he pitched pretty well in 4.2 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3 in a no decision. The Nats offense got started in the first inning when Bryce Harper hit a broken bat solo homer for his MLB-leading 8th of the year. This was all the Nats could get until the 8th inning. By that time, the score was 6-1 Mets as the Nats bullpen struggled to keep them in the game. The eighth inning was an explosion for the Nats as they loaded up the bases for Bryce Harper, who hit a two run single and made it 6-3. The Nats didn’t stop there and they loaded the bases a few more times, getting it to 6-4, then tying it on a Wilmer Difo two run single. They then took the lead 7-6 after Michael Taylor drew a bases loaded walk, capping off a 6 run inning. They would add on an insurance run in the ninth when Howie Kendrick hit his second homer of the year. Ryan Madson then closed it out for his second save of 2018, getting the Nats to 8-9 on the year.
Next game is tomorrow at 7:10 PM. *
