On a rainy Thursday in Boston, in a modern gallery full of people dressed in black and muted earth tones, I served as the sun
My Intermediate Video Workshop class drove the 5 hours south to Boston yesterday to explore the Institute of Contemporary Art’s current exhibit, Art in the Internet Age. We jammed to the ‘Dirty Dancing’ soundtrack, Sufjan Stevens, and Lady Gaga. At the ICA, we surveyed walls full of flashing TV screens, satirical luxury advertisements, movies where the dialogue was taken from real-life sex chat rooms, and one traumatizing virtual reality piece.
I encourage you to check out the exhibit if you’re at all interested in wild, whacky multimedia art or simply consider yourself a denizen of the internet who often considers the social/moral implications that these little screens in our hands entail. If you can’t make it to Boston but would still like to experience passionate, messy art that simultaneously criticizes/praises the contemporary U.S. digital age, then just check out my heart: I had an emotional breakdown last weekend and am slowly rising on steadier feet, thanks to fab friends
