Happy Fathers Day
I think my dad would really like this painting by Vickie Wade. I've been gifted a few paintings that he had over the years and they all share a sense of nostalgia - I believe from his growing up years in the North Dakota along the Little Missouri, through the Badlands and into Hastings, Nebraska.
Some of the characteristics that my dad cultivated in me: a deep compassion for and tending to animals, common sense, and intellectual curiosity. My Dad worked very long hours and when he'd come home, I'd have eaten, bathed and be tucked in bed. My bedtime stories were from our subscription collection of National Geographic. We'd thumb through an issue together and he'd amaze me with the stories of flora and fauna that filled those pages. He never 'baby talked' me. In fact, he often spoke to me as if I were an adult colleague of his. I marvel at how little I understood at times. Perplexing to say the least! But from this, I learned a great deal of common sense. He never sugar coated anything. He was not a chatty person and still isn't. But a conversation with my dad can be a world of wonder. He's one of the brightest, bravest and talented people I know. Love you dad. Thank you for being a role model, a hero, and an inspiration to me.
