It feels like just yesterday and the day before we were celebrating Piña Colada and Mojito Day. I guess it's not too surprising that there are a bunch of rum drink celebration days in the middle of summer!
A classic daiquiri is one of the most quintissential cocktails after the Old Fashioned. The blend of spirit, sour and sugar works so well together in its simplicity and makes it a great base for most cocktails. A mojito is a Daiquiri with mint and seltzer water. A Mai Tai is a Daiquiri with curacao and orgeat. Change the spirit from rum to gin and you have a Gimlet and so on.
I've made a variant of my favorite Daiquiri variant, the Hemingway. Rather than the bitterness of grapefruit, I added tartness from fresh passionfruit. Lower the lime and up the sweet to compensate for the acidity and we have the Passionway Daiquiri! Hope you're celebrating Daiquiri Day with your favorite kind of Daiquiri. Cheers!
2 oz White Rum
.5 oz Maraschino Liqueur
.75 oz Passionfruit Juice
.5 oz Lime Juice
.5 oz Simple Syrup
Shake and strain into cocktail glass. Top with shaved ice and garnish with passionfruit and lime
Swap the rum for coconut water and the maraschino liqueur for a barspoon of cherry syrup for a refreshing mocktail version!
