Repost from @gowithnugget of Sia in a bathtub at Kolmanskop, Namibia. The story of this town should be conceptualized by @paulthomasanderson. German colonialists were building a railway in the early 1900s when a (Namibian) worker found a giant diamond, Germans started a settlement and proceeded to build an an entire town (in German architecture, no less- much like Namibia's coastal towns today) complete with a creepy ballroom, sports hall, taxidermy, a casino, an ice factory, a tennis court, school & the first tram in Africa. How they envisaged all of this in turn of century Africa is beyond me. The photos of the settlers looked like they lived it up, though, touché.
I'll post more of @michaelrunkelphoto's photos here when I get them- incredible spot, historically. #lüderitz #namibia
