The third branch of London’s best Ramen opens in Islington and the albeit tolerable queue is encouraging. The dishes are as good as ever and I’m delighted to have this exemplary restaurant one step nearer to home.
Best bit: the waitress was brilliant - attentive, informative, and friendly. The dishes are consistent with other branches which is a huge compliment. The spicy yuzu ramen was the winner on our table, reassuringly fierce but with the hallmark depth of flavour in their other ramens. The Tonkotsu X is also fantastic, as I’d trust them all to be. Jammy eggs and black garlic sauce are great additions. The Chasu Don rice dish was a hidden and unexpected gem. Rice?! Converted.
Worst bit: if I was being harsh I’d say the (perfectly cooked) chicken Karaage needs more seasoning and something sharp to complement the mayo - without this I thought it was imbalanced, lime or no lime. On request they brought chilli powder it must be said.
When to go: for lunch, expect a queue but there are lots of tables. Don’t bother with your best frock, I’m still trying to wash the ramen splashback out of mine.
