And it’s a wrap. Four lovely, warm women walked into my house with a desire to work out what they really want from their careers and they have left with insight, laughs, actions and greater clarity. .
And I have gained a lot of clarity myself. Most shocking is the realisation that as women our career confidence is routinely diminished when we become mothers and try to maintain our previously successful careers while doing another full time job of looking after our children and raising the next generation (so nothing important then). And yet the deck is completely stacked against us. We are at a structural disadvantage. The work place is not set up to accommodate the needs of working mothers and tremendous sacrifices and compromises are necessary. I know this and no doubt you do too. What I find upsetting and stunned by every time I see it, is the effect that this structural disadvantage has on real, live, wonderful mothers. When I listen to women tell me that they don’t feel confident any longer to apply for that job or they question whether they are ‘good enough’, when I see the effect that this social structure has on individuals....it upsets me and it makes me mad 😡.
And it also makes me all the more determined to do something to support women with children to work out what they want and to go for it 😀🤩
