Hugging my Papi chulo extra tight this week knowing that across the world, thousands of dogs and cats are being driven into the city of #yulin to be tortured, slaughtered, and consumed at the #yulindogmeatfestival A good majority (of the thousands) of the dogs are People’s pets. They are stolen in the night from the family that loves them to be killed and eaten. I have volunteered with dogs who have been rescued from this festival. All the saved dogs have been boiled alive, burned, and/ or mutilated. They are the lucky ones. I feel overwhelmingly helpless...
Then... right in my backyard, in the state that I’m from, thousands of children, have been separated from their parents. The images of the heartache, trauma, and uncertainty are heart wrenching. I AM Tejana, Mexican - American, human and “this America” has shook me to my core this week. It’s a feeling of indescribable hopelessness. •
Being a forever optimist, believing in the best in people and humanity, I know there is a light at the end of this world of darkness. I pray that there is. For me the light is the force that has pulled me into action, allowed me to feel grateful beyond measure, and has forced me let go of the fear of being judged for speaking up. •
What can we do?
- donate @muttmatchmaker @raicestexas - volunteer
- pray - be kind
- call our representatives
- say something/ do something
- get woke
- hug your loved ones
- take a selfie
All deeds big or small, done in love, can make an impact, so please don’t judge, find a cause that speaks to your heart and do something.
