with only one bird in frame it's hard to really get a sense of just how fast these sea ducks grow. Pictured here is the same long-tailed duckling, 2 weeks apart. In that time, he's more than quadrupled in size and entered his awkward teen phase. stay tuned next week for when he debuts his gorgeous adult feathers 🦆

This is Mosi, a patas monkey who lives at the @houstonzoo. This is the fastest primate species on earth, running at speeds of up to 34 miles per hour! They have diverse means of communication, using different calls in response to different situations and types of predators. If faced with an aggressor, the male will make a diversionary display, bouncing on the bushes and trees before fleeing through the grass. This detracts attention from the females and young, allowing them time to flee silently or stay hidden in the grass. Female patas monkeys typically use a ‘moo’ call to stay in contact while on the move. Males of this species are nearly twice the size of females, and are also more brightly colored. Follow @joelsartore for a close up image of this monkey!

here is melanistic, meaning black in color, which is rare. The Asiatic Golden Cat is primarily found in forested areas, particularly tropical and subtropical moist evergreen forests. Little is known about the ecology and behavior of the asiatic golden cat and more research is essential to understanding this species and implementing conservation. As a forest dependent species, it’s threatened by habitat loss throughout it's range. Although deforestation rates in Southeast Asia have slowed some, they are still among the highest in the world. In addition, the species is threatened by increasing levels of illegal hunting and poaching for consumption, and for the sale of pelts and body parts. There is thought to be some level of poaching or hunting of this beautiful cat in literally every country across its range. #Asiaticgoldencat #PhotoArk #endangeredspecies #federallyendanger

Do passeio matinal o nosso pequeno crítico deixou algumas notas.

@australianreptilepark is part of an incredibly important project: save the Tasmanian devil from extinction. Devils are dying at a rapid rate in the wild as a result of a contagious facial tumour, though there have been exciting recent findings of genetic changes to the species, seemingly evolving to counter the danger. However, we can’t risk that failing, so teams like the ones in this video at captivity breeding ‘insurance populations’ so that, in the awful event of extinction in the wild, we don’t lose this incredible animal for good. Video courtesy of the Park.

This spectacular bird is an Andean Cock-of-the-rock, photographed at @dallas_world_aquarium. The national bird of Peru, this species is easily identified by its fan-shaped crest and brilliant orange plumage. They get their name from their preference for rocks and ledges as the base for their mud cup nests, which the females are responsible for building. Males gather in groups in a location called a lek to perform elaborate courtship displays. They even try to attract females with a call that sounds like a pig squealing! They bob up and down, bowing and hopping around to display their bright plumage. Males will mate with more than one female and, once she lays her eggs, she cares for the chicks by herself. #Cloudforest is one of the most #threatened terrestrial #ecosystem to #climatechange and land-use change due to its very restricted climatic requirements, as they are only found in areas with a very narrow altitudinal gradient, and because they have a set of highly specialized species that depend on cloud-related microclimates and mountain topography to live. In #Mexico, cloud forests cover less than 1% of the territory surface and the largest extensions of these forests are found in the state of Chiapas, including the #sierramadredechiapas. If we do not act soon, more than 50% of the cloud forest could disappear in the next few years along with all the species that live in it like the #tapir.

#tapiresdelasierra #landscape #zsledgeofexistence #edgeofexistence #edgefellows #natgeo #natgeoexplorers #natgeoexplorer #wcn #wildnetorg #forest #photoark #extinction @wildnetorg #bioconciencia

RepostBy @wildlifejamaica: "Happy #worldsnakeday Jamaican Boa (Chilabothrus subflavus) 🇯🇲aka Yellow snake,(juvenile 1-3,last adult) is #endemic and is #jamaica s largest native terrestrial predator and feeds on #birds #bats #coneys and #rats by constriction. The Jamaican Boa is NOT venomous! none of Jamaica's 7 extant species of snakes are venomous . Not only is the boa not a threat to humans, it's actually extraordinarily beneficial. Rats are a major component of the boa's diet in forest edge / farm habitat, so when a farmer finds one coiled in a coffee tree or banana plant, it's digesting a meal which would have otherwise damaged their crops. If you're lucky enough to have a wild boa take up temporary residence in your house, you will find that your rat problem magically goes away.

Unfortunately, most Jamaicans are not as thrilled with the idea of having a boa in their house! The traditional Jamaican antipathy to reptiles (in general) & snakes (in particular) is a serious problem in their conservation. In the absence of an education programme, snakes are killed on sight. This intense persecution of such a benign and beneficial animal, coupled with continuing habitat loss and fragmentation of remnant forest patches, is a serious threat to Jamaican Yellow Boa populations. #jamaicanboa #jamaicansnake #snake #boa #reptile #cute #snakesofjamaica #nature #naturephotography #worldsnakeday2018 #snakesofinstagram #876life #876 #harmless #conserve #caribbean @natgeo #photoark #wildjamaica #repost @joelsartore" (via #InstaRepost @AppsKottage)

It was dead silent, as these images speak louder than the most chaotic mind. Afraz was at a corner, staring at his favourite wall in this powerful room. He asked me - what is happening uncle Nashie? I told him we have lost our direction, succumbing to our entitlement, feeding our ego and soon, destroy ourselves. 10 minutes later he replied - not yet. It's as simple as that. I took my camera out and changed my focus point. The shot is now freezed, with a story to be told in time. He held my hand and we walked out of the exhibition, with a lighter heart and a mission. The seed is planted, the tree will grow, and the roots will anchor deep. The world will change.
