We're excited to announce a major upgrade in communications at UVM Rescue. Our aging fleet of Motorola HT1250's is being phased out to be replaced by Motorola Solutions APX8000's and APX4000's. Crew chiefs will be carrying the APX8000 units which have the ability to communicate on VHF, UHF, 700/800MHz, and digital frequencies (quad-band). This will greatly increase interoperability when responding into outlying communities or during disasters. The remainder of crew members will be equipped with APX4000 which are UHF/digital. Both these units are also equipped with an emergency button that alerts dispatch if needed, greatly improving crew safety.
