The people make the culture. Today I had to check a Mexican young lady who said the N-Word and I told her and her mother how inappropriate it was and the history behind the word. They said, “Oh but the way she says it isn’t offensive. And we hear other black people say it” I said , “You also see black people getting killed by police, you see black people denied employment, you also see black women denied exposure because of the color of their skin, you also see beauty portrayed in the form of lighter skin. Everybody wants to be black but PEOPLE make the CULTURE, and you’re not a person of this culture. You can appreciate it but when you start wanting the “perks” to sound tough but don’t have to go through “black girl problems”, that’s an issue. God didn’t see fit to make you African American so don’t wear it as a costume. If it happens again I will transfer your case out.
The mother talked to her and the girl remains in her room quiet, anytime I have a session!
Please stop giving your friends a #blackpass of saying this world when they don not have to deal with complexity of being African American.
Me graduating and being the commencement speaker spoke to my commitment to shine in darkness of this racist world.
