My 5th grade pulls out 2 wins for the weekend. My 6th grade has some players step up and find out what they're fully capable of doing.
The whole reason I coach is for 3 reasons:
#1) To help each kid on my team to develop skills and gain more confidence in themselves after every practice and game. Teaching them that patience is a virtue and you can't become better overnight. It takes hard work day in and day out.
#2) Being a good role model. A lot of things can affect kids as they're growing up, and you never know who's life YOU can change. My kids know that if they need anything outside of the basketball court, they can get ahold of me at anytime. No matter what it is.
#3) Basketball is basketball, but there's so much you can teach a kid and speak through to a kid that will help them in life. Learning to finally believe in themself, pushing them through tough things, and that you're not given anything. -
