Reading Recommendation 2:
Firstly, I know I said I’d post these every Friday, so my apologies that this one is late.
The basic recommendation this week is actually a video. Specifically, it is “Introduction to the Law of Value - Marx in Minutes” by Xexizy. You can find it on YouTube. I think this video is a strong introduction to the basics of Marx. It introduces to the law of value, explains the different types of value, the extraction of surplus value, and a few of the contradictions within capitalism. Definitely check this out if you’re interested in learning more about Marxism, or if your current understanding of capitalism and socialism is purely a moral one and not a materialistic analysis of class society (looking at you anarchists).
The advanced reading recommendation this week is “Essay 3”, by D.Z Rowan. Rowan is, for any who didn’t know, politigram’s very own @_communized_ , and is responsible for having introduced me to Egoism. You can find Essay 3 on Rowan’s Wordpress “The Collage”, which there is a link to in Rowan’s bio. This essay touches on many subjects, including the relationship between Egoism and Communism, and criticisms of the mainstream left. I highly recommend Essay 3, and Rowan’s other essays on The Collage, to anyone who already possesses at least a basic understanding of communism and egoism. Besides that it requires some previous understanding of communism and egoism, it’s not a particularly long or difficult read, mostly thanks to Rowan’s talent as a writer.
