I preach this all the time with my patients. If someone tells you that spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, or any modality will fix you on its own, they are lying to you. The use of these tools can greatly optimize our tissues and joints for a period of time however, if we do not learn how to move properly, load our joints through different ranges of motion, and repeat frequently, the problem will reoccur in the not so distant future. Regular movement/exercise is necessary for good joint and tissue health, not to mention the release of various hormones that improve our ability to deal psychological stressors. Exercise is the most under prescribed medicine and the amazing part about it is that ITS FREE!!

Love this drill for many reasons:
📝
Progressively loaded(band) shoulder extension
📐
Conditions the most neglected quadrant of scapular movement - depression + retraction
🤾🏽‍♂️
The kettlebells provide a little distraction and downward feedback for the shoulder girdle. They also potentiate for the unloaded version

Playing some simple games, sometimes, can be very interesting for several reasons:
.
1️⃣- Articular health. The best thing you can do to keep healthy an articulation is moving it. And we not mean moving it searching for new ROM, but moving it through all it's range. Enjoying what you have daily and in various ways keeps you healthy.
.
2️⃣- It can help to highlight some weak points. The exposure to new patterns makes us realise that you are not as skillful as you thought in that position.
.
In order to play you don't need to be excessively creative. Something as simple as: "How many ways do I have to overcome that obstacle?" gives us a vast array of possibilities.

T-Spine Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs)
🔴The objective of this 'exercise' is to help facilitate movement through the thoracic vertebrae of the spine. My example is far from perfect (hint hint something to work on!) 🔴 Here I use a foam roller to help promote my own bodies self awareness to keep everything but my thoracic spine as still as possible as I move through my CARs
🔴Begin to irradiate the body to a self induced isometric contraction of 40-60% 🔴Slowly move through the thoracic part of the spine while keeping everything else still. 🔴If you don't OWN a joint then fluffy 'mobility' exercises will be an insufficient use of one's time, be as smart with your mobility as you would strength training
🔴This concept above is from the Functional Range Conditioning course I took in Dublin this year. One thing I can say with certainty is to take this course! If not for yourself then your clients! Mobility training should be taken as seriously as any other aspect of athleticism (strength, power, speed etc). I saw this on @pfsgolf Instagram, some seriously cool stuff is being done by these guys! #frc #everydamnday #tspinework #mobility #strength #ArticularHealth #functionalrangeconditioning #maytheforcebewithyou

Injury occurs when : LOAD SUSTAINED > LOAD BEARING CAPACITY OF THE TISSUE.
#
With reoccurring injuries like a sprained ankle, the rehabilitation (restoring tissue to state it was in prior to injury) may have been 'successful'.... but actually improving the load bearing capacity of the tissue is often overlooked.
#
Improving ankle strength & stability in the video... weight could be added in time, as the connective tissue strengthens, further increasing the load bearing capacity of the tissue.
#
If you are involved in a sport, which puts high load demands on your joints, and you are not preparing your joints (ligaments, tendons, capsule, etc) for the forces involved, expect injury.

Injury occurs when the load imparted exceeds the load bearing capacity of the tissue. Conventional rehab trains the tissue back to the injury prone level, which inevitably re-injures when exposed to similar loads. We need to improve load bearing capacity to a level beyond which the tissue will be exposed to." ~ @drandreospina

"A joint is defined as the space between two bones that allow for range of motion, if you do not have full access to that range of motion, technically you don’t have a joint." ~ @drandreospina
