A strange picture but bear with me... I qualified as a sports massage therapist around this time a few years ago. Today I’m here waiting to catch a flight to Brno, Czech Republic. This isn’t a ‘look at me I’m off on holiday’ post.
I never got the chance as a kid or adult to represent my country at sport, I just wasn’t good enough and to be fair most of us aren’t.
However, over the coming few days I have the chance to support a national team compete in Czech Republic. I might not be competing myself but I am helping them represent the country.
I might be a back stage member of staff but it is a role I am proud of.
When I qualified as a sports massage therapist I never thought I would be travelling to support a national team with my skills. I remember my first ever client that paid me. I remember how awkward I felt being paid for my work. I remember turning up nervous, sweaty and feeling sick. They guy thought I was brilliant, gave some amazing feedback and continues to book in to this day. I remember the week where I first had ten clients in, all in one week, that was an achievement.
Since then I’ve done thousands of massages, taught the massage course, support junior therapists whilst offering a mentorship programme and developed a plethora of skills and knowledge.
I might be travelling abroad, I might be working with a national team, I will be working with people I don’t really know but I do know I will enjoy it. I still won’t forgot where I came from, the clients I have and the very first client experience.
