Felt good to sleep in a bit and snuggle with my guys. Feeling like I overdid it a bit this weekend. Woke up with everything hurting which in part is probably because I didn’t drink as much water as I normally do. So under the Mr’s orders I’m taking another day to relax a bit and take care of some things that have been neglected a bit.

So instead of my hour long workout, I subbed in a 12ish minute lower back yoga stretch. Happy Monday!

After our rain walk, I came across a little meditation garden 😉😍 I plopped a seat in the wet sand between the art, reflected on the day & my plans for the future...and, of course, enjoyed the sunset! One of my favorite parts of the trip was those moments: me, the crashing water, setting sun & my thoughts. Before I moseyed back to the tent for the night, I snagged a rock from the water that resembled the meditation garden. Got my workout in early so I can enjoy a beautiful drive up to Vermont today to begin my 10 day residency for grad school. Aaaaaand it looks like I’ll be sweating for the rest of the day 😂😂 I almost fell over a few times doing cardio today because I am stiiiiiiill not very coordinated, but the moves are getting easier! There is NO better encouragement for me than knowing I can push through a place where I stopped before. At the beginning of this program, the instructor said, “It doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger.” And I think I am getting there! So thankful for my accountability group and support system constantly checking in and keeping my motivation at an all time high! .

I find box squats harder than normal squats due to not being able to use that bounce in the bottom of the squat!

Fitness has always been defined by end games and results. “Work hard and eat well and you can achieve your wildest dreams.” It is fascinating how deeply ingrained that thought is in today’s society. Now, we aren’t saying that those statements are wrong but, let’s be honest, you need to think about yourself as you go through this fitness equation. In reality, if you are working toward very specific results you need to do these things well: • Workout hard…but not too much • Workout smart • Eat well…and enough • Rest and recover
In a world that has been thrust into the “workout till you bust” mentality, the notion of working out smartly starts to look increasingly like it is highly important in your own fitness journey. But, most people don’t want to or don’t understand how to work out smartly so that they achieve their goals and most people don’t want to or can’t pay for personal training at £50+ for a single session. What do they do? They go generic. They either get into a group training template or they pick and choose from a myriad of examples of what may work for them. What does that lead to? In almost all cases it leads to a small increase in fitness up front but then stagnation and potentially burn out in the long run. New program is underway.
I am now drawing from some @sealfit programming (see the other picture for the book). Often my training days will now be structured as follows: a strength/skill/endurance workout in the early morning like this one, and a more typical WOD in the evening. I'll be scaling the book's workouts as needed, and what I actually complete is what will be posted (as I always have). This morning my 10RM came out to 155lbs, and with the plates I had I used 75lbs. for the set of 50 squats. Then loaded up 70lbs. for the carry.

I am stubborn. I may even have been called hardheaded 🤔
So, when I decided to do my first program, I decided to go all in.
But what I refused to believe, or accept, was that my body couldn’t do what I wanted it to do.
I refused to start as a beginner. Instead I picked the ‘extreme’ version and the first work out, which is actually the hardest one in the whole program.
➡️It was ridiculously hard.
➡️I had to stop.
➡️I had to switch weights.
➡️I had to use no weights.
After the workout was done, my legs were shot.
So much so that the next two days I could not sit down on the toilet without holding myself there with my arms 😳
I was in pain.
I was embarrassed😞
But it helped me hit the re-set button and realize that I needed to change my mindset, start from square one, and take baby steps. ❇️That was 2 1/2 years ago.
This morning I did the very same workout.
I still had to switch weights.
It still kicked my butt 😂
But I can see that even though it has taken a little while, I have made huge improvements.
So, instead of feeling miserable and walking around in pain, I am going to walk around strongly knowing where I’ve come from and where I am going.
