It's internship season, y’all! This means that many of us might feel obligated to relax or straighten our natural hair in the corporate office. Even if we don’t, we still see a lot of it! Why? Because of the outdated stigma that rockin' the hair you were naturally born with somehow makes you "unprofessional" . This summer, I challenge you to let your natural hair fly! Why? Because embracing your roots and owning your identity only make you better equipped to handle the corporate challenges that will be sent your way. Below, are my FIVE #protips on how to rock your natural hair for work. Still looking for a job or need other career advice? Waking up is difficult. Nevermind waking up early to do your hair! If you’re not a morning person, find a protective style you can pineapple or wrap up at night, like twists or a flat twist bun! That way it’ll last you a few days!
Not ready to let the mane out at the office? Try a half up half down style with twists, braids, or slicked down hair while letting your curls flourish in the back!
Headwraps and headbands are totally great for those days when your hair isn’t cooperating completely. If you like patterns, like me, opt for some neutral clothing so your hair accessory can really pop!
Not into any of the things I’ve mentioned? A slicked back bun hasn’t disappointed me yet!
Feeling anxious about your hair getting messed up, frizzy, or coming loose? Keep a stash of hair products or accessories around just for those anxiety inducing moments! Bring some bobby pins, perm rods, hair elastics, & a comb to work or leave them in your car!
