There’s something remarkable about rhinos! The DSWT’s commitment to the species goes way back. In the 1980s, we helped establish Kenya’s first fenced rhino sanctuaries. Through they years, our daily patrols — on the ground and in the air, in partnership with the KWS — have helped monitor and protect the country’s remaining populations. Most recently, we refurbished the Meru Rhino Sanctuary, a stronghold for the species in Kenya. Thanks to your donations, we were able to establish two new security bases, build an extended electric perimeter fence that incorporates wildlife corridors, and provide a new Land Cruiser to enhance security efforts.
Meru was a place that our founder, Daphne Sheldrick, held very dear — and through the upgraded rhino sanctuary there, we are proud to offer this remarkable species a brighter future.
