This is the street where I was given my Salvadoran culture, which has given me the strength to survive.

I’ve started my day filming the Mission District, to put together a poem-video (kinda like a music video but, not really. Check out this mural.

Making last minute changes to the love poem for the Mission, my birth home, and El Salvador, my salvation. I’ll roam the Mission all day, filming to make my poem video. I’m at a groovy coffee house called @fourbarrelcoffee415 . If you see me, stop and we’ll chat!

It’s a gloomy Tuesday morning in Los Ángeles, perfect weather for reading.

This is an old one, written 17 years ago. I was 33 years old, and living in PA... I was still pretty idealistic back then. I thought I could change minds with my passionate words, an exhortation. Lol! Perhaps not. A mind can only be changed, if it wants to be. I can however, love regardless - but let me tell you, it is no easy task. Love is much more than a “feeling”. Love is an action word. You don’t fall out of love - you fall out of “like”. Lol! Love is a choice. It’s not always easy. Those who need the most love, are they who are considered to deserve it the least. But then - who does “deserve” love? Is love not a gift? I say yes - therefore, I wonder at why so many think love is something to be earned... respect? Sure. Respect must be earned. But love...? Love (not lust) should always be freely given (in a perfect world, anyway - and I confess I am anything but) Many May disagree with my philosophy, and that’s okay... it’s just my opinion. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Lol •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

“When you know love will always be there no matter, that person is in your life or not, love is the feeling to cherish. Love is meant to be...and somehow that one person can make you smile and give you so many tears at the same time, presence doesn’t matter when memories can make them both, lips smile and eyes cry...”

I need silence to write, and today is one loud day in the neighborhood.

1

Some Robert Frost to start your day.

2

Books I’m reading of new Latino/a/x writers. I’ll talk about them on The Writing Bull Podcast throughout the summer.

3

Poet Alexandra Lytton Regalado and I talk at the Associated Writing Program conference. She’s the author of “Matria,” a powerful collection of poems that rise out of El Salvador’s soul. Listen to the interview on The Writing Bull Podcast.

I’ve gotten notes back from my agent, on a novel I’ve written. This week I’ll share some of those notes with you, as embarrassing as they might be...

2

I also talk about a recent issue in the literary world, around the writer Junot Díaz.

1

I’ve been reading Alexandra Regalado’s poetry collection “Matria,” an intensely beautiful read.

3

I love my barber. She went off on her daughter who decided to spend Mother’s Day with her mother in law instead of her. When she gets pissed, her scissors go wild.

2

Good morning from The Writing Bull! I’ve got some groovy stuff going on this week at my blog I wanna tell you about.
