@PõhjalaBeer Italobänger Imperial Stout with figs, star anise, blood orange and grape must at 12.5% abv (Swipe!!!)
I’m guessing #StoutSunday is happening for me as well, with this Esto-Italian Stallion Bad Boi. Pitch black with a small dark khaki head. Heavy roasted, slight smokey and huge leathery with a massive chocolate/coconut/vanilla and dried fruit/figs sweetness to it. Big mouthfeel and quite a punchy warmth from the alcohol, which is much needed in a beer like this. Some spicey notes well integrated into the mix. You get some of the blood orange as well, but not up front. Grape juice is perhaps the hardest to spot here. Not surprising, considering all the stuff fighting over attention here. There is alot going on, and I was a bit sceptic seeing all those ingredients on the label, but it all holds together surprisingly well. And it doesn’t feel like a ploy either - both the blood orange and grape juice do contribute to the overall picture. The finish is again quite roasty, bringing leather and ashes back in the fore. Ashy leathery feeling smacking on the tounge long after each sip. This is very much your typical massive Põhjala impy: heavy roasted, sweet and punchy. If you don’t like your imp stouts sweet, this is probably not for you. But at the same time, this is not your neckbeard pastrywhale either. Wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, but I gotta say, impressive work on this one Põhjala! Cheers!
