Terraforming Mars hit the table this weekend.
When I first played Terraforming Mars I liked it but it the feel of a game that I would enjoy more on a second play through (when I had some insight into how the end game would work).
This turned out to be correct, I had the chance to play with the Venus Next expansion, which adds another win condition to the game, prepping Venus for habitation.
The real core of this game is its machine building element, you start very slowly. In your first few turns you can only take a limited number of actions, as the game progresses your industrial machine swells. You start by targeting playing cards that will increase your production but at some point during the game you switch to cards that focus on gaining you victory points.
Terraforming Mars weaves together so intelligently, choices and ramifications of those choices make sense. The scientific theming also feels very genuine and it encourages you to learn about some pretty interesting scientific procedures.
Terraforming is an excellently balanced, superbly produced, strategically satisfying game - cannot recommend enough.
