Accidental finds. #America
We found this cute li'l tiny town (a Borough actually!) of Jim Thorpe (named after the native American Athlete) couple of minutes from Lehighton when we took a wrong turn along the Pocono mountain region while heading to Wilkes Barre and man! Whattey a sight it was to the eyes which were literally filled with browns and whites and greys and blacks. This touristy town has literally 2 streets nestled in the mountains and the slope is quite steep! And both these streets are literally one or two car streets. I honestly dunno how you drive in the second street which has the Church. The architecture styles here totally reminded of the li'l hill towns in India and some of the homes even had benches or 'katte' as we called them in namma ooru. This town mostly consists of loads of local small scale business, 2 mansions, a jail in the hills, a train station where you can take a 70 minute ride along the hills, a cultural center, a museum and quite few eateries. It was drizzling the whole time we were there. We can't wait to go back in summer to enjoy few hikes around this area and of course the train ride in the hills! Of course would recommend clubbing this visit along with the other areas like the Bushkill falls or the Hickory run or the Delaware water gap. The whole town can be toured in couple of hours.
Totally a pretty surprise for the long weekend getaway. How I wish the weather hadn't gotten gloomy! #JimThorpe #EastCoast #pennsylvania #architecture
