With #TravelTuesday upon us once again, I thought I would like to share a bit of my visit to Monterosso al Mare on the Italian coast, one of the five cities that make up a popular summer tourist location in Italy, Cinque Terre. By this time my colleauges and I were well adjusted to Italian life in most respects, and we were ready to enjoy the Mediterranean. Something we did not expect was that all of the "beaches" in this town were glorified gravel slopes to the ocean, which was slightly uncomfortable. It was also here that I, otherwise careful electronics user that I am, inadvertantly took my LG Nexus 4 mobile device into the water with me, and it died a slow, painful death. Thankfully, I had brought a spare Blackberry with me in case of just such an emergency, but that was a terrible experience, nevertheless. The first photo you see here was the lunchtime view that I shared with friends after a morning of swimming and sunburning on the beach. The second photo in the sequence was the view from the hotel veranda or patio of the ocean. Unfortunately, it could not be seen from my room. The third photo is a view of one of the hamlets on the mountainside you will see as you drive over the mountains to emerge along the coast. If you are in a bus, there will be times of adrenaline rushing fear if you dare to look over the edge of the steep, winding roads as you descend upon your destination if you are at all acrophobic. It appears that I used an ND filter to take that image, but in reality the windows of our tour bus were tinted and produced the effect. Finally, the video footage concluding this post is of my colleagues and I performing for the staff of the restaurant where we consumed our first dinner in the city. You hear the end of Healey Willan's motet "Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One." My photos were captured with my @canonusa 5D Mark II and a @sigmaphoto 35mm f/1.4 HSM DG Art series lens.
