Innovation >> Meet Powerhouse
Powerhouse is a partnership which aims to develop energy positive buildings which are available to buyers at market rates and commercially viable to developers. .
An energy positive building is one which produces more energy than it consumes over its lifetime, including the manufacture, design and construction phases. .
And it doesn’t just save energy, it produces it too!
This is a big deal for two reasons: firstly, buildings make up 40% of the world’s energy consumption. .
Secondly, the EU has decided that from 2020 all new buildings have to be near zero energy, so the supply of such buildings will become hugely important in the EU (and hopefully too ). .
There are a few Powerhouses popping up around Norway already. Our favourite (see image) is a new secondary school, opening next year, which has one wall entirely covered in solar panels. The panels are angled towards the daytime sun and provide the majority of the energy. It also has a geothermal well beneath it. .
Protecting the planet for tomorrow requires changing our behaviour today. We've listed 10 ways to reduce your carbon foot print this summer at Farr Festival 2018 Head over to our website to find out how.
Chaenomele - these pretty flowers turn into the quince fruit - a great example of something beautiful you can grow that can also provide you with some gyo produce. Growing and caring for this plant fits into a couple of the categories of why gardening is so good for you. Over the last few months I have been discovering lots of reasons why it is #GoodtoGarden and this week I am going to be recapping on them all!

We were having too much fun enjoying this gorgeous weather yesterday, but HAPPY BELATED EARTH DAY! // Earth Day (or any day) is a great opportunity to plant a tree in your yard or community! Many of us don’t have yards - or have already over planted them - but there are still plenty of ways to observe; one of the most important for all of us is being more waste conscious. So, curb that single use plastic by bringing your reusable water bottle or coffee container, say no thanks to that straw in restaurants, or even dust off that commuter bicycle// Convenience is great, but shrinking your footprint is pretty cool too!
HAPPY EARTH DAY! ♀️ (Belated) I have so much to say about Earth day and practicing a clean and green lifestyle, I couldn’t decide what to say or post and was so busy yesterday. I also don’t like to write paragraph posts. But a friend shared a Facebook video on 5 easy and eco-friendly products that help Mama Earth so I reposted and now I’m sharing with you insta friends!!! - Stainless steel straws
- Reusable organic cotton MU pads
- Wool dryer balls
- Reusable produce bag
- Reusable wrapping paper
I immediately ordered reusable produce bags and had just asked a Whole Foods associate about recycling the plastic ones. Hope you too can also make a small lifestyle change to ensure we don’t leave a polluted pile of garbage for our children and grandchildren to live on!
Don’t forget to stop by the @produceplace before Monday- all donations made at the register will be DOUBLED! Every dollar helps us reach more students and teachers! .
Rachael again! Tail coating off of yesterday’s post, here is how you can give to the @theurbangreenlab!
Now through the end of the month you can grab your groceries at @produceplace and support non-profit Urban Green Lab’s 2020 Campaign for #SustainabilityEducation! All donations made at the register will be matched by Produce Place effectively DOUBLING your support of Urban Green Lab on their mission to educate students and teachers about sustainability!
Foresters, architects, engineers and state officials in Oregon have invested heavily in "mass timber" technologies that allow wooden structures to stand taller and do so safely. The term "mass timber" describes several products created by combining wood pieces into larger panels or beams. In the past, if you wanted to build big, you needed big trees. Mass timber combines small trees to provide the same or greater strength. Architects tout mass timber as reducing the carbon footprint of large buildings while speeding up construction and offering unique design possibilities. U.S. building codes do not provide guidelines for tall wooden structures, but Oregon hopes to change that. #tech#technology#buildings#orgeon#wood#design#thefuture#gogreen#carbonfootprint#bestof
one of the quickest and most effective ways to care for this earth is to just pick up just three items of trash a day. if each person in the world did this, can you imagine how much of a cleaner and even more beautiful planet this would be? #take3forthesea#everydayisearthday
The Sustainabilist was at the Showcase Theatre today where the impacts of water and energy consumption in the tourism industry were discussed.

My own small and simple steps to help save the environment involves raising awareness of what we can do by simply starting it in our own homes. .
There have been a lot of products actually that would mean reducing the amount of trash we produce every day. And by reading articles about saving the earth we live in, I have come across this cool product that looks both stylish and cool! I have never imagined it before that there will be a time in which we will be using steel straws like this. Thus, I immediately looked for a supplier and saw the post from @sipsteelstraws .
I'm guilty of using plastic straws when dining out, even just for water! So I found this product really useful for me, and for Leia too. It's a travel essential and a must-have in our bag. And when it comes to aiming to reduce the amount of single-use plastics that goes to waste immediately after one use, consider ReUsable Straws. It's made made out of Stainless Steel that's safe to use even by kids. And worry not coz you can clean it using the small brush included in the set. Can you believe that it also comes with a bigger straw that's a perfect pair for milk tea lovers like myself! .
Here's an even better news! In celebration of EARTH DAY 2018 ~ "Refuse the Single Use". I'm giving away SIP STEEL STRAW SETS for you and your Bffs plus SurePrize Items too! Watch Out for the Full Mechanics on my BLOGPOST tomorrow, so make sure you're subscribed to www.leiasmom.com to be notified automatically. GoodLuck!

There’s been a palpable shift in the market place as increasingly, consumers seek sustainable alternatives. We’re proud to be working with a few champions of change such as @rebelleofficial and supporting them in finding new, effective ways of building a brilliant brand while reducing their impact on the environment. Sure, sustainability is a trending topic right now, but it’s an important one and to stay relevant we businesses should be factoring it into their strategy and growth plan. Whether it’s something as simple as switching to e-receipts and swapping plastic packaging for reusable totes, or perhaps it’s re-evaluating your supply chain and ensuring transparency; consumers are recognised as having more respect, trust and loyalty towards brands that care #GrowWithBelle
