Networking. If you’ve heard me talk about this before, you’ll know that I am not the world’s greatest networker. In fact, I am really not very good at it at all. I can be quite socially awkward, I have a tendency to embarrass myself by putting a foot (or two!) in my mouth, and I am absolutely rubbish at small talk.
Despite this, I attend events like the #soulpreneurslive conference at every opportunity and I continue to spread my awkwardness. Why? Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Connection. Even though sometimes I wish I could be more polished, I have made some incredible friends at events, as well as some valuable business and career connections. I would never have made these connections if I didn’t go out of my comfort zone!
2. Speaking of comfort zones... it is sometimes hugely uncomfortable, but it can be super healthy to do something different and challenging. And if none of us ever stepped outside our comfort zones, there would never be new ideas or innovation.
3. Learning. I have learnt so much this weekend. There has been loads of food for thought and I have some brilliant ideas about how I can move forward in my business and career. Not all “networking” events have speakers or training, but if you are looking for an opportunity to learn, there are plenty of events that make this possible.
So, what are you waiting for? Start looking for events that are interesting to you - you never know what will happen!
