Molskine Sketch : The Horizon : The Edge of the City
I stopped and sat on a large rock and settled down for a quick sketch to capture this vista. I remember it was windy. I had to use all my limbs to keep my paint things from tipping over or flying off. Undeterred, I glimpsed the horizon thru the trees, lake and sky, suddenly I felt a calm come over me, need to capture this moment.
I notice that I have to regularly tell myself to raise my eye and mind and see beyond the clutter of everyday. Experience vastness, the horizon re-minded me, I AM.
To emerge from the grid at the south-western edge of this city, especially here at Sunnyside, and get a free and clear unobstructed view of the horizon : relief, visual relaxation, and a deep breath, I have arrived. Further along the boardwalk, framed by the cottonwoods, I have a favourite resting place to reflect and take in the big picture and contemplate the long view.
