Savasana, or corpse pose, is always the most difficult for me. Relaxing completely, surrendering - knowing I’m safe. It’s easier for my body to relax when it’s moving & stretching, but when it comes to letting go & simply lying exposed, my body tenses & stays ready to fight, to protect. It’s difficult. But it’s also one of the most important asanas, where our muscles rest & integrate all the work they’ve done during practice. Where the mind quiets more as we operate on a different awareness, one that doesn’t identify with thought but instead the drumbeat within. Outside of the mat, rest is also equally important as movement. It’s where we integrate everything we’ve learned - where we let go, remember we’re constantly being held, & are taken care of. We’re taken care of not because someone’s telling us what to do or has our life planned out - but because we‘re the natural rhythms around us. The frost comes, plants die, they re-bloom, they flourish, they die again. Everything around us is constantly taken care of by its natural cycle, even when it’s dead. Trust in your own inner rhythms. They exist because they know what they’re doing.
