WE BELONG TO EACH OTHER. We’re each other’s keepers. And children, regardless of where they come from, deserve to be protected no matter what.
We can do better...we are, all of us on either side of party lines and polarizing opinions, capable of better. It’s so easy to throw around hate and blame; but blame isn’t in the business of unifying anyone. We have the ability to stop the hateful speech that leaves our lips and causes a divide even in our own homes. There is no fear in love and the same is true that there is no love in fear.
We belong to each other. Every one of us. .
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"”
- Emma Lazarus, The New Colossus, 1883
