A few days ago, I got this giant zucchini.
Low-key, its initial appeal was its price: only $1 dollar at my local farmer's market (!) However, after turning the corner to my place, I realized that its purpose was much larger than filling my stomach.
As I made my way through a campus courtyard, I noticed that one of my friends was sitting alone, looking a bit stressed out. She had hands on her head, and a sullen gaze towards the sky that reminded me too well of all the moments that I'd sat alone, overwhelmed and shaken by life's trials. So, I walked over with my farmer's market bags, determined to be a lil' bit of a light. After a bit of casual conversation and playful banter, I decided to show her my prize for the day: the zucchini. Really, I thought nothing of it, except that it was a good deal.
But, instantly as the zucchini emerged from the bag, her sullen mood was traded for a huge smirk, as she blurted out: 'What is that?!'
And then, we both started laughing - me realizing the absurdity of my gem and her realizing that little joys in life come in all shapes and obnoxious sizes - beckoning us to look past our troubles for a moment to enjoy them.
Now, I share this story with not so that you can go buy yourself a giant zucchini (LOL - unless that's your thing), but instead to encourage you to share a laugh with someone today, or to find something small to be happy about or thankful for. Life can sometimes be ROUGH. Trust me - I know. But, know that somehow you’ll get through whatever is weighing you down. Even if it takes some time.
So prayers up, and God Bless! Have a great day friend!
