Last summer I hit the lowest point of my life personally and professionally; I was disillusioned, cynical, angry, depressed and felt disconnected from everything when I serendipitously met a board member of @stoppoachingnowofficial
She told me about their amazing anti-poaching efforts, the R&D trip they were embarking on in five days to visit these conservation sites in Africa, and joked that I should join them.
While wildlife protection has always been very close to my heart, my logical left brain had 10,000 reasons to shut that down. Then something deep inside me shifted when I heard the itinerary included Zambia, where I grew up.
This whisper grew each day and even though my mind was screaming at me to stop being crazy, it took over my body, went on an autopilot mode, and to my astonishment every single obstacle I thought would never work out started sorting themselves out one by one.
I bought my ticket the night before the trip and jumped on the plane and headed to Africa, not knowing much or having met anyone, since the person I met wasn't going. Yet somehow I felt an intense knowing that everything in my life, both good and bad, placed me exactly where I was, to be a part of this.
What I experienced there completely changed my life - or rather, it put me back on a path more aligned with who I've always been - and now I have an opportunity of a lifetime to give back to my second motherland.
As a newest board member of @stoppoachingnowofficial I am chairing a fundraising spin event on 4/29 @cyclebarweho to restore elephant population in Zambia as a precursor to reintroduce black rhinos, which have gone extinct in the area. I hope you can join me - you can sign up by visiting stoppoaching-now.org or a link in @stoppoachingnowofficial bio
If you are unable to join us, pleeeease consider making a contribution to my on-line campaign (link in my bio)
Any amount helps and I can personally vouch for the people involved in these efforts, both in Africa and the US, having met and worked closely with them.
Thank you for caring and thank you so much for helping to make this world a better place.
With my eternal gratitude and love,
