Q&A POST 1/3: NUTRITION .
What a journey I’ve been on with my nutrition. I began as a 17-year-old girl, aspiring to be a Victoria’s Secret model. And what does any VS model “appear” to do. Cut the carbs. Cut the calories. And do hours of cardio . Fast-forward a few years, and I landed myself aspiring to STRONG girls. A strong girls gotta eat. ENTER the beginning of four years of STRICT macronutrient counting. My macros were predominantly filled with processed foods and “sugar free” options ♀️. I was then introduced to the term, “balance”, which quickly turned into, “binge”, after being so restricted for so long. I blew out a little, eating anything and everything in-sight, feeling a sense of freedom . Next, I stumbled upon the “Paleo diet”, and decided to refine it further with “Paleo-organic”. This brought about a BIG restriction phase, leading me to drastically loose just over 10 kilos in 6 weeks .
Now, fast-forward to TODAY, I have found a balance of all of these EXTREMES and FADS to create a simple, whole-food, diet-free LIFESTYLE . No scales. No tracking. No restrictions. Just simply eating a broad range of micronutrient dense whole-foods that I ENJOY — while being mindful of my macronutrient intake (protein, fat, carbs) to help me perform and feel my best .
So, I don’t have enough space in this caption to write my full shopping list. But in short I aim for organic/ free-range poultry, fresh/ wild-caught fish and occasionally organic grass-fed beef (not the biggest fan of red meat), and LOADS of free-range/ organic eggs ! I’m constantly snacking on fruit and nut mix, nut butter on rice cakes and am avocados number one fan . My plate is always over-flowing with vegetables, with the occasional side of brown rice or quinoa. You’ll generally find me with a piece of fruit in my hand, spooning coconut yoghurt into my mouth or jamming out with some party oats .
