Day 139/365: The very first time I ever came near a #FishingCat I smelled #SirScramblesTheDeathDealer distinctly. He had an incredibly potent smell especially before he was neutered when his scent literally seeped through his fat cheeks. It was a scent he carried with him for the duration of his life. Being that scent is one of the strongest senses linked to memory recall, it's no mystery to me as to why I am hurtled back to memories of Scrambles whenever I walk by the Fishing Cat enclosure.
I've been going to the #zoo on average of once (sometimes twice) a week for close to a year now, but have never really seen the Fishing #Cat because it is usually sleeping as high up and out of sight as can be. Today I got lucky and met a Fishing Cat. Aside from the smell, I was slammed with similarities between it and Scrambles. The oily slick fur, the short stature, the broad face, the fat cheeks, the weird cat trot, the odd little cat chirp sounds that aren't really miaous... EVERYTHING reminded me about Scrambles.
I had been told before by breeders and vets that Scrambles most likely had some sort of mixture of exotic cat in his genes; they always said Serval, but after meeting the Fishing Cat I started to think that maybe it wasn't.
So I started looking things up. Turns out Fishing Cats can be legally bred and owned as exotic #pets/mixtures (typically only the wealthy do this and Scrambles was rescued from Hollywood). Their scent is unique (Scrambles), they are fiercely independent (Scrambles), they are very stocky densely-muscled cats (Scrambles), notorious for urinary issues (Scrambles' whole life), average lifespan of 10 years (fucking Scrambles), they utilize scoop paw (Scrambles), they enjoy water (Scrambles shower time cat mosh), they have a unique "chitter" more so than a miaou (Scrambles), their cheek scenting is highly potent (Scrambles), I could go on...
I am now utterly convinced that Scrambles was part Fishing Cat. Everything about him fits. Everything. I talked to Benj about it to be sure that I wasn't looking into things and he agrees that Scrambles was likely part Fishing Cat.
