I’ve certainly had that happen. As a matter of fact, over the years I’ve lost friends over that statement. The thing is....I always felt like I had a direct connection to God. God and I have a relationship. I have a path. I did what I knew I needed to do. Even the mistakes were part of my journey and I would not have gotten where I am today without them, so they were meant to be. .

I spent a lot of trying to figure out the why of all of it and eventually I had an answer. It was never about me. It was about them. It was about who they needed me to be. It was about what they wanted for their own life. It was about their values,their goals their dissatisfaction with themselves and what they thought needed to happen. I had two choices. Be me and live authentically or give in and try to be somebody else to please EVERYBODY else.

So I chose the former and it made all the difference. I will tell you one thing. If you choose the latter your soul will become tired and you will never find peace.

I use this simple phrase a lot in life to keep me grounded. IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU. Just remember those four words next time you are suffering in relationships. The world makes much more sense that way. Xo- Kim

What seemed like just another task became a #memoment ✨ I ‘had’ to get to the gym so I could get a lift in because I didn’t go Monday night & Thursday is looking iffy. I went and between reps, I responded to a training email. I took my allocated rest time to think. I wasn’t fully present in my exercises so I was surprised when I got some #personalbest 💪🏻 And that made me remember one reason why I love #lifting 🏋🏻‍♀️ It’s my time to focus on me, trying to be the best #strong version of myself as possible. #goals #metime #gymrat #prettystrongsmartathlete

The first time I did a fitness photo shoot it was for fun. I'd actually been featured in a magazine's style section a few month's before hand and simultaneously had spent a lot of time getting in shape the couple years prior.

After those two events my friend convinced me to go to an open casting call for a modeling job for a local commercial development. I had such strong intuition that I needed to show up that I flew home from California where I was vacationing a day early to attend. I was very nervous and felt like I was out of my league but I did it anyway. I was selected.

The images used in that campaign helped me to build a portfolio alongside shooting some additional fitness images to go with it. Door upon door opened after that. I just really felt like I had this long list of goals to achieve by the time I was 40. I was 38 then so it was a whirlwind journey.

Those experiences also lead me to founding @fitmomdiet with Shannon Dougherty. You know how you can look back in life and think about events and things that happen and some just grip you to your core. Like you know in the moment that you are having an experience you'll never forget. That's how many of the opportunities I was granted through FMD were for me. They are my soul.

I like to look back occasionally on photos because there are so many memories that surround each one. They remind me of who I was in that moment and allow me to reflect on how I have changed over the years as well.

I am so grateful for the journey I've lived. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am also grateful though that I evolve. That on so many levels I can look back and say, yes, I've done that. The thing I find most interesting. Sometimes you can return to a place where nothing looks different but everything has changed. #perspective

Smiles before the suck. || Soon after I took this picture, my knee hurt. I could only run on it for about a tenth of a mile 😫. I was supposed to run 5 but that wasn’t happening. Super frustrating and concerning since my race is two weeks away.

I'm not a fan of running at night. I was tired, but I needed to get it done. The pace showed my sluggishness. Thank goodness for interval running & runner math! Training has been lackluster but I'm going into the #acrossthebay10k just for fun...no PRs. I can't wait for that view! I also wore my #RUseeN reflective vest last night, picked up a new (reflective) arm band by @armpocket & used my @aftershokz ear buds because #safetyfirst #beopen #fitbit #prettystrongsmartathlete

It's good to be back! I did a pull workout that felt good!! Wearing my #VegasStrong bracelet because at least for now, I want to remember this community while the world moves on. 📌LONG POST ALERT! 📌

MEATLESS and feeling amazing 🌶️🍊🍋🥒🥕

Before you get your panties in a WAD for thinking I’m just another sucker watching a documentary or movie and making the meatless switch, settle down and listen. I barely know how to turn on the TV and have not watched the latest "What the Health" documentary that everyone’s talking about. I have been miserable with gut pain, discomfort, bloated, gassy, you name it, I’ve felt it! .
.
Through trial and error I’ve eliminated fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, gluten, grains, soy, dairy, but NEVER meat. I’m mostly a chicken, turkey, and deli meat, fish kind of girl with the occasional burger or bite of read meat. My gut was causing me so many issues I was going a bit crazy trying to pin point what my issue was and how to fix it.

A few weeks ago I was inspired by my friend and fitness rock star @daniellepascente's post with similar gut issues and her trials with a plant based diet. If you’re not following her, GO NOW and find her on IG. At this point, eliminating meat from my diet couldn’t put me in any more discomfort, so I gave it a whirl. .
.
12 days ago I decided to stop eating chicken, turkey, meat, etc. and only eat fish. For someone who food preps on the weekend and is used to cooking copious amounts of chicken, ground turkey, etc. this was deftinelty a mental switch. .
.

Let me tell you, I feel Fanfreakingtastic! I’m not saying I’m Vegan, Vegetarian (because I’m not), I’m on the Shannon Plan, and it works for me. I have limited dairy, whey protein, fruit, vegetables, oats, quinoa, beans and so far, So good. Taking my gut health one day at a time and for now, this makes me feel (and smell) good.

Weekend Dinner ideas. Try our easy Crock Pot Chicken Ole soup.

Ingredients: •2 lbs uncooked boneless skinless chicken breasts •4 cups organic chicken broth •1/2 tsp sea salt •1 tsp oregano •1 tsp ground cumin •4 cloves garlic, minced •4 -10 oz cans of organic diced tomatoes with chilies (Substitute fresh tomatoes with chilies if preferred). For less spice use tomatoes without chilies. •1 -15 oz can of organic black beans, rinsed & drained •2 cups chopped white onion •1 medium green bell peppers, minced •1 medium red pepper, minced •2 ears of corn cut from the cob

Directions:

Step 1 – Combine all ingredients and place into crock pot.

Step 2 – Cook on low for approximately 8 hours or high for approximately 4 hours.

Step 3 – Serve with optional toppings including avocados, cilantro, reduced fat cheddar cheese or Greek yogurt.

My first attempt at a #ninjajump had me landing on my butt and laughing!

After doing a series of body weight #ninjajumps successfully (I was quietly landing on my feet and not using my arms as much to propel me), I decided to add the lightest bar I could find (a 25 lb short bar). I've got some work to do...including finding a lighter longer bar. This was a great way to mix up the leg workout and have fun!! #ninjajumps #prettystrongsmartathlete #fitmomchallenge

Rest and repeat! I got a good back workout in this morning. I won't be able to workout tonight so I flipped the script. I also took rest breaks, especially with the inverted rows on the smith machine, since they're such a challenge for me.
