I will literally throw a poached egg on anything these days. Found Cauliflower Rice stir fry @traderjoes this week. Added avocado and a poached egg and had myself a lovely little lunch bowl 👍🏻👍🏻 corn is not an approved FMD food, but there weren’t too many so I picked them out before eating.

My new favorite side is baked sweet potatoe. Sweet potatoes are so good for you and can help promote weight loss if you’re looking to drop some Lbs. I started eating a ton of sweet potatoes while on the FMD and now I make this easy side a couple of times a week. They come out sooo tasty!! I’m addicted! 😋
Cut potatoes
Toss with Olive oil, juice of a large lemon, salt and garlic powder
Bake covered at 425 for 45 min then uncover and bake an additional 20. Done.
Serving tonight w grilled chicken and a summer salad

Smiles before I started. Smirk when I ended. I did a great warm up for my legs which included all the leg extensions and lying leg curls and then moved into my weekly workout. About 2/3 through my first exercise of Bulgarian split squats on the smith, I felt my back tighten up and decided it was better to rest then push. I stretched and did a back bend to help loosen up. Hopefully that does the trick! #goals #legday #prettystrongsmartathlete

Put all the #thanksgiving vibes into my workout tonight! I enjoyed it so much! It started with coordinating my straw, hoodie, & shorts. Then I moved on to trying to lift heavier for each workout. I’ve certainly had that happen. As a matter of fact, over the years I’ve lost friends over that statement. The thing is....I always felt like I had a direct connection to God. God and I have a relationship. I have a path. I did what I knew I needed to do. Even the mistakes were part of my journey and I would not have gotten where I am today without them, so they were meant to be. .

I spent a lot of trying to figure out the why of all of it and eventually I had an answer. It was never about me. It was about them. It was about who they needed me to be. It was about what they wanted for their own life. It was about their values,their goals their dissatisfaction with themselves and what they thought needed to happen. I had two choices. Be me and live authentically or give in and try to be somebody else to please EVERYBODY else.

So I chose the former and it made all the difference. I will tell you one thing. If you choose the latter your soul will become tired and you will never find peace.

What seemed like just another task became a #memoment ✨ I ‘had’ to get to the gym so I could get a lift in because I didn’t go Monday night & Thursday is looking iffy. I went and between reps, I responded to a training email. I took my allocated rest time to think. I wasn’t fully present in my exercises so I was surprised when I got some #personalbest 💪🏻 And that made me remember one reason why I love #lifting 🏋🏻‍♀️ It’s my time to focus on me, trying to be the best #strong version of myself as possible. #goals #metime #gymrat #prettystrongsmartathlete

The first time I did a fitness photo shoot it was for fun. I'd actually been featured in a magazine's style section a few month's before hand and simultaneously had spent a lot of time getting in shape the couple years prior.

After those two events my friend convinced me to go to an open casting call for a modeling job for a local commercial development. I had such strong intuition that I needed to show up that I flew home from California where I was vacationing a day early to attend. I was very nervous and felt like I was out of my league but I did it anyway. I was selected.

The images used in that campaign helped me to build a portfolio alongside shooting some additional fitness images to go with it. Door upon door opened after that. I just really felt like I had this long list of goals to achieve by the time I was 40. I was 38 then so it was a whirlwind journey.

Those experiences also lead me to founding @fitmomdiet with Shannon Dougherty. You know how you can look back in life and think about events and things that happen and some just grip you to your core. Like you know in the moment that you are having an experience you'll never forget. That's how many of the opportunities I was granted through FMD were for me. They are my soul.

I like to look back occasionally on photos because there are so many memories that surround each one. They remind me of who I was in that moment and allow me to reflect on how I have changed over the years as well.

I am so grateful for the journey I've lived. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am also grateful though that I evolve. That on so many levels I can look back and say, yes, I've done that. The thing I find most interesting. Sometimes you can return to a place where nothing looks different but everything has changed. #perspective

Smiles before the suck. || Soon after I took this picture, my knee hurt. I could only run on it for about a tenth of a mile 😫. I was supposed to run 5 but that wasn’t happening. Super frustrating and concerning since my race is two weeks away.

I'm not a fan of running at night. I was tired, but I needed to get it done. The pace showed my sluggishness. Thank goodness for interval running & runner math! Training has been lackluster but I'm going into the #acrossthebay10k just for fun...no PRs. I can't wait for that view! Weekend Dinner ideas. Try our easy Crock Pot Chicken Ole soup.

Ingredients: •2 lbs uncooked boneless skinless chicken breasts •4 cups organic chicken broth •1/2 tsp sea salt •1 tsp oregano •1 tsp ground cumin •4 cloves garlic, minced •4 -10 oz cans of organic diced tomatoes with chilies (Substitute fresh tomatoes with chilies if preferred). For less spice use tomatoes without chilies. •1 -15 oz can of organic black beans, rinsed & drained •2 cups chopped white onion •1 medium green bell peppers, minced •1 medium red pepper, minced •2 ears of corn cut from the cob

Directions:

Step 1 – Combine all ingredients and place into crock pot.

Step 2 – Cook on low for approximately 8 hours or high for approximately 4 hours.

Step 3 – Serve with optional toppings including avocados, cilantro, reduced fat cheddar cheese or Greek yogurt.

I also took rest breaks, especially with the inverted rows on the smith machine, since they're such a challenge for me. After doing a series of body weight #ninjajumps successfully (I was quietly landing on my feet and not using my arms as much to propel me), I decided to add the lightest bar I could find (a 25 lb short bar). I've got some work to do...including finding a lighter longer bar. This was a great way to mix up the leg workout and have fun!! #ninjajumps #prettystrongsmartathlete #fitmomchallenge

My pageant day workout was a great 20 minute total body freestyle consisting of 21s for my biceps, Russian twists, triceps kickbacks, squats, & dumbbell deadlifts. What a great way to start the day! #latergram #mindset #totalbody #prettystrongsmart

What I ate 🍴For my three main meals, I had a mocha shake for breakfast, a peach mango shake for lunch, & a chicken shawarma salad for dinner (with extra chicken because one scoop looked like a couple of ounces) that I had on the train. Positives: I can't believe how satisfying the shakes are! This is huge for me because I normally love to chew my calories. I've been having the peach mango (oh my god, so good) for breakfast and iced mocha for dinner.

Last night was #allaboutabs || It's one area I don't like to train, but need to in order to improve my core strength. I attempted a rope plank using the TRX ropes (that was super difficult), rope crunches, alternating leg planks, v sit ups (another super challenging one for me). Leg day last night incorporated some of the reminders and new things from #campgorgo
1️⃣ Single leg work to help make the right as strong as the left.
2️⃣Play with timing. I went fast on the positive and slower on the negative contraction.
3️⃣ Mix it up and have fun. The riser jumps & speed skaters weren't in my program but it's a good thing to mix it up!
