#leveragelove “It’s not always easy, but they’re always worth it.” Truer words could not have been spoken about our boy Mater. I found Mater on the @thelovepit website one year ago tomorrow. It took a month before he was ours, and no one knows what his 2 years were like before he was pulled from the shelter. •
When Mater’s AMAZING foster mom @dog.dog.kat gave him to us, we knew he was deaf. We knew he had chicken and grass allergies, bad teeth, and a crazy sensitive tummy. We also knew he had anxiety and chewed on rocks to pacify himself. But upon leaving our first meeting with him, I cried and said to my husband, “That’s our boy.” His big fur sister loved him and so did we. Since that time, we’ve unearthed more severe anxiety, specifically separation, OCD, dental infections from the bad teeth, and had a few weeks in March when he lost 20 lbs and we weren’t sure he’d live through his bowel resection (from eating a rock). Luckily with the help of his passionate veterinarian, ever-supportive rescue, a fantastic Veterinary Behaviorist, and our amazing Instagram community, we’re on the upswing. It’s quite possibly been the hardest 11 months of our family’s life, but I just keep telling Mater, “Someday, buddy, we’re gonna have you all figured out.” Why? Because HE’S OUR BOY, and we’d do it all over again if we had to.
