After owning Bora Bora for a while, I finally got it played with my mom and girlfriend while on vacation in Ohio. As a fan of The Castles of Burgundy, I was looking forward to Bora Bora, and it didn't disappoint.
We were all a bit lost in this first play. We each kinda followed our own path, basically just pulling levers to see what happened. I went for expansion, trying to get all my huts out by game end. I was also able to complete all my tasks, which felt good. My girlfriend went for a bit of everything, and also completed all her tasks. My mom focused mainly on keeping priests in the temple and building all of her building tiles. She also got 6 pieces of jewelry. She ended up winning by 15 points. We all learned the importance of priests, and we wanted to play again afterwards. Even though I lost, I felt that I did things that I could feel good about, which I tend to enjoy in games I play.
After my vacation, I hit the road again to help my sister and brother-in-law move back to California. Consequently, I haven't gotten many games played recently. However, my girlfriend wants to play Bora Bora again when I get back home, and I can't wait! Are there any other Bora Bora fans out there? Let me know in the comments. Until next time, happy (dice placement, island) gaming everyone!
