Now that there's no footer on telly for a couple of days, it's back to games. YAAAAAY!
This little beauty is The Thing(PS2)
Based loosely on John Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi/horror masterpiece, this one doesn't disappoint!
The game was endorsed by Carpenter himself, who apparently also did a character voiceover for the game, which went uncredited.
All the paranoia and terror, that made the film so remarkable and gripping has been faithfully incorporated into this game.
Where this differs greatly to the film though is that there is not just one 'Thing', but rather, there are many 'Things'
There are many shocks and genuine pant shittingly scary moments in this game.
One minute you're just casually poncing about in the tv room, when all of a sudden, some creepy alien bastard comes smashing through the window, causing you to jump 10 feet in the air outta your chair and yell "SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT! THIIIIIINNNNGGGGGGGGG!"
The one thing that does let this game down just ever so slightly though, is the blood test system, whereby you use one of the kits on your team mates and if they've been infected, they turn into a big fuck off monster.
The reason I say this is because if someone has been infected, they eventually turn into 'Things' regardless. Thus making the blood test kits totally redundant, and indeed pointless in my opinion.
Still, that minor gripe aside. It really doesn't spoil what is an otherwise fear fuelled, paranoia inducing, alien shooting, rip roaring rollercoaster ride of an adventure.
Just make sure you have a spare pair of shreddies on standby when you play this one!
