// r e s u l t s // are not as satisfying as the process.
When you don't have any money, money is a great motivator.
When you long for a companion, it's hard to think about anything else.
If you need a place to live, a car to drive, a job, or something to eat, you are driven to satisfy those requirements.
Most of us live scrapping to survive, and when you think that way, RESULTS are what motivate you.
We think that the job, house, friend, money, companion, vacation, promotion, or whatever will satisfy us-- until we get them.
Don't get me wrong, results matter. You need to win the game, get the album released, marry the guy, pay off your debt, or get the job.
But there are two problems with living for results: once you get what you want it doesn't satisfy as much as you thought, and the motivation wanes the higher up you go.
Take money for example. If you don't have enough money, you REALLY want some more. So you think, "I'll get that job or promotion, start that business, sell that thing, or ask that person for help." You may or may not get more money, but either way, you still need more. Grasping for the result doesn't solve the problem, it just pushes it down the road a little way.
What you should ask is, "why do I need money?" Maybe you lack confidence, skill, leadership ability, knowledge, a degree, or a clear goal. Figure out the real problem, and then find a solution.
The solution is going to require you to CHANGE, GROW, and WORK hard, or it's not a real solution.
Now comes the critical part-- FALL IN LOVE WITH THE WORK.
Those who love perfecting their craft get MUCH BETTER results than those who love results, and they get to enjoy the process along the way.
If you LOVE learning new things, perfecting key skills, and cultivating relationships-- if you love the work-- then you will get great results and be satisfied every single day.
