He is a retired government school headmaster and told us about how he had experienced Second World War of 1945, how there was fear all across the world at the time of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He talked about how there used to be brotherhood between Muslims and Hindus, giving us an example of how he was the one who taught his students several young Muslims, how to say the Kalma and how his Muslim friends would bring him souvenirs from Hajj.
Mr Shamji was also reminiscing the past of Karachi, when trams were in service, roads were washed, buildings were built in spacious areas, etc.

Spoken History (Ghair Sarkari Tareekh) GST in Oldtown is a project of collecting narratives of the residents of the area, who lived through 1947 Partition (The Migration of millions of people) for scholars and future generations, who want to know the past of the area.
These narratives will define the Old Town in social context, it's demographics and history. • To understand the transformation of the old town over time. • To use the lived experiences of people as the primary source of historical events. • To realize that in order to understand and fix the problems of the future we need to work our way back and understand our past.
