Ensuring that your shoulders are adequately warmed up for your training sessions will help mitigate your risk of injury! I see so many people complain about pain in their shoulders after a heavy upper body training session much of which can be caused by rushing into the main training sets and forgetting to take the time to warm up.
.
Here’s a simple drill that you can incorporate into your next workout warm-up.
.
The angle isn’t the best, but the movement is simple!
.
All you need is a mini band of some sort of which you’re going to either wrap it around your wrists OR hook it on your thumbs, then place your palms on the wall in front of you approximately shoulder width apart.
.
From this starting point, take your right hand and reach up and out to a position on the wall approx. 6-10 inches to your right on an approx. 45-degree angle. Touch the wall and then return to the starting position.
.
After you’ve completed 15-20 reps, begin reaching directly out to the side 6-10 inches from your starting point. Touch the wall, then return to the starting position for each rep.
.
Of course; follow this step with 15-20 reps reaching 6-10 inches out to the side and DOWN on an approx. 45-degree angle.
.
The entire time keep your arms fully extended and focus on moving from the upper back / shoulder area, NOT from your elbow. Make certain that the arm that isn’t reaching out to the side remains planted the entire time.
.
Don’t forget to do equal reps on both arms!

A little insight for you- how can we expect different results when we're doing the same damn thing that got us to where we are?

Change who you hang out with (PD counts! Bathe yourself with PD that speaks to you). Change your route to home to avoid the drive thru. Change your after work routine from plopping on the couch to reading, moving, prepping, taking a walk. Change where you shop or how you walk through the grocery store. Change where the junk food is stored in your house (is it at eye level and easy to grab?)- or eliminate it all together! Change your night time routine to set yourself up for a better tomorrow (go to bed earlier, lay out clothes, pack your lunch in the fridge).

You can't continue to do the same old thing and get different results! What is one change you can make today to your daily routine that'll be good for you?

Happy Friday!! What a great day to end the work week! No school for me for two weeks. A year left in completing my Masters program, future business planning and career success.

This morning, I give my love to the universe for waking me up beside my Children IN MY BED. YOU DON’T FIND TIME, YOU MAKE TIME // The most common question I’m asked is how I find time to exercise as a new mum. The answer is I don’t. I make time. In a former life I used to rely on scheduling workouts in order to keep me sane. When you can commit to a class or book in an hour of childcare to hit the gym, wonderful. But the reality is most days probably look like this. A stolen 15 minutes amongst bouncers and toys, using whatever you have around the house. The next time you find yourself scrolling the gram for 15min, or walking aimlessly room to room (it happens to all of us), recognise your opportunity and MAKE time. Don’t wait for the ideal scenario. Don’t put on the laundry. Don’t clean up the mess. Just claim those 15 minutes. You deserve them.

Sled pushes and sled sprints are some of my fave HIIT workouts. They are low impact, easy to use and guaranteed to challenge you and get your heart rate up! So here’s three different workouts to try next time you see a prowler sled at your gym: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
